Anti-government protesters gather in Paris on Bastille Day

Europe, France
“Yellow vest” protest

Anti-government protesters hit the streets of Paris on Sunday, July 14, as Bastille Day celebrations take place in France.

‘Yellow Vests’ are also expected to join the demonstration after their rally in the French capital was banned.

Beginning last November, tens of thousands of ‘Yellow Vests’ have marched every weekend to demonstrate against the government over a number of grievances, ranging from taxes on fuel to income inequality.

Organisers have associated this Sunday’s protest with the symbolic Bastille Day, this year marking the 230th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille during the French Revolution and commemorating the fall of the monarchy by a mass uprising
