The anti-establishment Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions and student associations have urged members to join the strike and reprise the protests that drew hundreds of thousands on Sunday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 12.

In February, the Hong Kong government proposed amending the law so that the city can accept extradition requests from countries where there is no prior agreement, such as mainland China.
